"Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose."

My Story
My interdisciplinary scholarship spans the fields of children's literature, girlhood studies, Black studies, and performance and media studies.
As a folklorist and performance studies scholar, I use transdisciplinary approaches to elucidate how media (children's literature, film, television, and social media) has helped shaped our cultural understanding of what it means to be young, Black, and female in the U.S. I also explore constructions of blackness and girlness in Korean children's literature.
